The club have been working hard behind the scenes since 2009 to resurrect and to promote the above series of "Come & Try It" events, held under the rules and regulations of our governing body, Cycling Time Trials (CTT). This means all novice riders not previously a member of a cycling club (aged 12 years upwards) are insured 3rd party for the duration of the 5 events. The series incorporates a trophy competition for 12-15 year old juveniles. David Wilson created the juvenile competition way back and we've tried to simplify the criteria for winning and even out the gender and age differences on a points-based system.
The series is open to ALL, so long as you're aged 12 minimum. You can ride on any type of bike so long as it's roadworthy, and you don't have to be a member of a cycling club. FREE juvenile/junior membership is on offer (for the series only) to all 12-15yr olds who sign up for it and medals will be awarded to the first three at each event on a points system. The overall juvenile winner will be presented with the Wilson Memorial Trophy at the annual Club Dinner and Prize Presentation in February.
The course is roughly triangular, starting in Burniston village and finishing in Scalby. The HQ is the Scarborough Rugby Union FC on Scalby Road. Meet here from 6.15pm each night. Under 18's MUST wear a hard shell helmet and have a signed parental consent form before riding. There may be a limited number of helmets to borrow if you haven't got one, but this cannot be guaranteed.
SO, MAKE A NOTE OF THE DATES IN YOUR DIARY PLEASE - ALL WELCOME, PARTICULARLY PARENTS AND SUPPORTERS, EVEN IF IT'S JUST FOR A CHAT AND A DRINK AFTERWARDS IN THE RUGBY CLUB:
