In 2016 our Founder Member Stan Chadwick celebrated his 100th birthday on 13th April. Paragon members marked the occasion with a social ride of 100km, taking in a route on the Yorkshire Wolds. It was decided to run this event each year around the time of Stan's birthday.
Sadly, in December 2018, our founder member passed away, so we keep his memory alive by cycling 102km for his 102 years of life.
Here is the basic route: (if you finish back at Crossgates bus shelter, that should be near enough to complete the 102km)
Meeting at the bus shelter (layby) opposite the community centre near Crossgates roundabout (B1261) at 9.00am. That's Seamer-side of the roundabout, not Cayton-side.
The route takes you east along Cayton Low Road to Station Road, Cayton, where RIGHT across the Carrs to Folkton. At Folkton turn LEFT to Muston on the A1039, where RIGHT to Hunmanby (Hunmanby Street/High Lane) and up past the golf range/sports centre (Hall Park Road) to the top crossroads.
Straight across into Bartindale Road, straight over the crossroads at the bottom (Argham Lane) where LEFT at the end to Rudston. RIGHT and LEFT continuing to Kilham.
At junction in Kilham RIGHT then LEFT after the church to Ruston Parva. LEFT on the bend (effectively straight on) through the village to cross over the main road A614 to Lowthorpe (Take Care). Proceed through Kelk where LEFT at junction after the school towards Beeford. Cross over main road A165 towards Skipsea Brough.
RIGHT in Skipsea to join B1242 (Hornsea to Lissett road) and café stop at Mr Moos ice cream parlour.
RETRACE as outward journey on B1242 to Beeford/Kelk but after Kelk, take a RIGHT WITH CARE on the bend (after the level crossing) to Harpham, where LEFT to junction with A614, straight over to Kilham where RIGHT in the village and RIGHT again to retrace to Rudston. RIGHT & LEFT at junctions in Rudston crossing B1253. Retracing RIGHT up Argham Lane/Bartindale Road/Hunmanby/Muston/Folkton/Cayton.
It should be around 100km (62.5 miles), with the finish being on Cayton Low Road near Plaxtons, plus your ride home from the start point at Crossgates.
