Scarborough Paragon Club Runs
In these modern times it has become difficult to pin down a dedicated day and time of the week for a social ride that is suitable for everyone. Work and family commitments sometimes dictate what spare time members have to get out on two wheels.
If you are new to cycling then please check out the Paragon Facebook page for posts that advertise impromptu rides or if already a member there is a SPCC Racing Group Whatsapp and a Muston HAlf Niners Whatsapp.
Traditionally there have been two meeting places/times; 9.00am at a) and 9:30am at b):
a) Crossgates bus shelter, opposite the Community Centre near the roundabout B1261.
b) Muston, Hunmanby Street bus shelter (opposite The Ship Inn)
Runs vary in length and are usually over 50 miles, with a café stop. The pace is around 13-15 miles per hour, depending on the terrain, weather and riders' ability.
All that is expected, is that riders are fully observant of the Highway Code, self-sufficient in carrying out minor cycle repairs e.g. punctures and have some cash for the cafe stops. A mobile phone would also be useful. Riders won't be abandoned; help will be at hand. If necessary, the group can always split to cater for everyone's commitments or ability. Some riders don't always have time to be out for the full route and turn back early, for example.
For those interested in a mid-week ride, some of the experienced veterans meet at Muston on Wednesdays, weather-permitting, at 9.30am for a steady ride, including a cafe stop..
